Position Summary
The Assistant Service Engineer – Component Overhaul supports the Remanufacturing and Overhaul Asia team in carrying out engine repair and overhaul activities, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and turnaround time. This is a hands-on technical role based in the workshop, supporting diesel engine disassembly, assembly, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The role is well suited for candidates with a strong technical foundation in marine or heavy-duty automotive engineering who are keen to develop deeper expertise in engine overhaul and remanufacturing operations.
What you will be doing:
- Perform engine repair and overhaul activities, including complete engine disassembly and assembly, in accordance with technical specifications and work instructions.
- Ensure overhaul quality standards and turnaround time targets are consistently met.
- Support engine troubleshooting activities during bench testing when required.
- Use workshop tools and equipment correctly, including torque wrenches and powered hand tools, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity, efficiency, quality, and workplace safety.
- Liaise with supervisors and senior technicians for technical guidance and support when required.
- Comply with all Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSHA) regulations and company WSH guidelines, including risk assessments when working on-site or at customer premises.
- Contribute to departmental KPIs across quality, safety, efficiency, and production throughput.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards and always uphold a strong safety-first mindset.
Position requirements:
- Diploma, NITEC, or ITE in Marine Engineering or Heavy-Duty Automotive Engineering.
- Hands-on experience working with diesel engines or related mechanical systems.
- Sound knowledge and practical experience using workshop tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently under pressure with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Good communication skills, with fluency in spoken and written English.
- Strong team player with a collaborative and professional attitude.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior experience in engine overhaul, remanufacturing, or workshop-based repair environments.
- Exposure to structured manufacturing, overhaul, or MRO operations.
- Familiarity with quality, safety, and productivity KPIs in a technical operations setting.
